Measure
To find out the radon concentration in your home, we suggest the AccuStar Alpha-Track AT-100 testing kit. This test is recommended by the Quebec Lung Association. Health Canada recommends the use of a detector allowing radon measurement over a period of at least three months between October and April.
Corrective action should be taken in a dwelling if the average annual radon concentration exceeds 200 Bq/m3 in the normal occupancy zone.
If the average annual radon concentration is found to be below 200 Bq/m3, Health Canada recommends that no action be taken. However, even low levels of radon can cause health problems. It is best to reduce the radon concentration to the lowest possible level, even if it is already below 200 Bq /m3.
If the radon concentration is found to be between 200 Bq/m3 and 600 Bq/m3, the corrective measures should be completed in less than two years.
